Azure, a thunderbolt Proper superimposed by a torteau fimbriated Or bearing a compass rose Argent.

On a wreath Or and Azure and anchor Or and a stylized eagle in stoop saltirewise Sable.


SUPPORTERS

A United States Navy sword and a trident saltirewise Proper.


MOTTO

A scroll Argent double Azure inscribed "DEFEND OR DESTROY" Gules.


SEAL

The coat of arms as blazoned in full color upon a white disc edged with a gold rope and inscribed "USS THUNDERBOLT" above and "PC 12" below in dark blue.

Symbolism

SHIELD

Dark blue and gold are the colors traditionally associated with the Navy and represent the sea and excellence. The heraldic or mythological representation of a thunderbolt, underscoring the ship's designation, symbolizes the ship's speed, authority and strike capabilities. The circular shield, which is red to denote courage and zeal, bears a compass rose, a traditional symbol of maritime navigation.


CREST

The anchor denotes stability and strength while the eagle, in the form of a stylized flash, symbolizes speed and responsiveness while recalling a lightning flash or thunderbolt.
